I have known Mike Nestor for nine years. He is one of a vanishing breed
where honor , duty and loyalty to friends and ideals is more important than
himself. He will inspire you to perfection because he demands nothing less.

"As a police officer and soldier I have been exposed to a lot of different
fighting systems but I believe that Hapkido is one of the best combat arts
available for anyone interested in realistic self-protection. In my opinion it
should be the required Defensive Tactics training for law enforcement and
Combatives training for military personnel. The great thing about Hapkido
is that the techniques will work for anyone regardless of age, gender, size or
strength. I have personally witnessed Hapkido practitioners subdue much
larger opponents with very little effort. It really is "all about the technique".
I have only been practicing Hapkido for a short time but I have already
greatly improved my flexibility, endurance, speed and coordination. Hapkido
has helped me to feel better than I've ever felt before and I'm very
confident that the techniques I've learned would give me an edge up on a
violent criminal or an enemy soldier. Mike Nestor is an excellent instructor
who has many years of experience in teaching Hapkido to military and law
enforcement personnel as well as civilians. He is the most qualified
Instructor that I've found in the Denton County area and one of the most
qualified Instructors in all of Texas. Mike Nestor can legitimately claim to
be certified by the Korea Hapkido Federation (KHF) and the World
Taekwondo Federation (WTF) which are the official governing bodies in
Korea for these arts. I would highly recommend any law enforcement officer
or military personnel in the Denton County area to train with Mike Nestor.
You won't regret it!"

Martial arts is not just for physical fitness, or for self defense, but a means
to cultivate the mind, body and spirit of our everyday life.  Growing up in a
Korean American culture, I constantly seek a happy median between my
two cultures.

Power Kicks Martial Arts has helped me greatly in reaching that happy
median.  Mike Nestor is the first American instructor that I have studied
with, and I am proud to represent our school in any way shape or form.

Among many things, he is a great martial arts instructor, a great friend, and
a great role model.  He is truly a man whose conduct proceeds from good
will and an acute sense of propriety, who is himself humbled if
necessity compels him to humble another, and who appears well in any
company.  Mike Nestor is a man with whom honor is cherished and virtue is
safe.

I have known Mike Nestor for over 12 years and can attest to the fact that
he is one person who knows what he is talking about, and has a true
passion for his craft. The techniques that he teaches are common sense,
easily learned, and extremely effective. The best part is that these
techniques, when justified to use in self defense, are defensible in a court of
law. In this day and age, that is an extremely important thing.

In Hapkido we learn to use our opponents motions and energy against
them.  Ironically this sometimes makes bigger opponents the easiest to
beat because they have more energy for us to use against them.  This isn't
considered "fair" when it comes to competitions because bigger people are
"supposed" to win.  That is why competitions have weight classes and why
you don't see heavy weight boxers go against light weight boxers. When it
comes to protecting my life, I want all of the advantages that I can get.
Hapkido teaches me those advantages.

I was also surprised to see that many ideas that I learned in Hapkido have
an application in the business world.  As a software engineer I've never had
a physical confrontation at work, but conflicts of ideas are a daily
occurance.   The poise and self confidence that comes from knowing that
you can defend yourself physically, carries over to a meeting where you are
being attacked verbally.  In Hapkido we learn that the foolish thing to do is
meet an attack head on and charge into your opponent.  It is much better to
flow with your opponent until the moment is right, then you are able to
control and defeat your opponent.  In the business world we call this "give
him enough rope, and he will hang himself".

Once you decide that hapkido is the right choice for you, the next thing you
need to do is find a qualified instructor.  Having a black belt does not
qualify someone to be an instructor.  Anyone can go to a martial arts supply
shop and buy a black belt for under $10.  You need to find an instructor who
is recognised by the Korea Hapkido Federation and who continues to train
under a legitamate master.  Michael Nestor is certified by the Korea
Hapkido Federation and continues to study under Korean Grandmaster
Yang, Seung Kyu (Grandmaster Yang trained under Choi, Yong Sool, the
FOUNDER OF HAPKIDO!).

Tae Kwon Do's tenets provide standards to live by : Courtesy, Integrity,
Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.  I first started training
many years ago, and these tenets re-enforced my moral compass, and are
standards I continue to live by.  Not only does Tae Kwon Do address the
mental aspect of our lives, but it is also wonderful exercise, helping to
improve fitness, flexibility, co-ordination and endurance levels.

I've only recently been exposed to Hapkido, and have found it to be both
challenging and rewarding - there's nothing like the sense of
accomplishment you feel when you successfully complete your first throw.
No matter how strong, tall or big your opponent, Hapkido WORKS!!

Martial Arts is great for the whole family, it helps children  (and adults)
physically, mentally and morally.  A friend of mine once said "A family who
trains together, stays together", and in my years of experience I've seen
this to hold true.
